I just read all the takes on the Ducks vs. Utah on Bald Faced Truth by John Canzano. I have wagered on college and pro football for years. I used to have to go to Nevada, as it was the ONLY place in the United States where you legally bet on football. You had to do it in person with cash only. Now, I go to Sheridan, Or to Spirit Mountain casino. Same deal: cash only in person only. If you win, you have up to 365 days to cash in your winning ticket. The sports book there gets their lines from Las Vegas; called the “official” vegas line. Different casinos in Nevada, have varying point spreads. Most all are close to the “official” vegas line. I also go to Lincoln City, Or. to Chinook Winds casino. They have a sports book there too. These two casinos are very close to each other. They usually have identical point spreads. Both get their spreads from Las Vegas. I have been a very strong Duck fan for about 60 years. I love my Ducks, and I do not wager on them or against them. We owe Utah a payback after they beat us twice last year. I am very anxious for this game, as well as several others tomorrow, like the Beavers at 11:15 am on ESPN 2, the BIG GAME of Stanford at Cal 2:30 pm on pac-12 stations, and USC at UCLA 5 pm on fox. My picks are Beavers losing in the desert, as kicking field goals in dry, non-windy conditions are somewhat tricky, (spread is OSU favored by 7.5) Cardinal over Berkeley Bears (spread is Cal favored by 5) as Stanford has gone on road and beaten Notre Dame, and Wilcox is not nearly as skilled as David Shaw, I am very happy that Wilcox, whose whole family played for the Ducks, turned down the Duck head coaching job only twice! He is beyond unproven and Bears are a poor team. They need a new proven coach like maybe Jeff Tedford, who had several good years in Berkeley, before they dumped him and he went to Fresno State. I like USC over UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Even though Dye is out for the Trojans, Lincoln Riley is a brilliant coach. He brought his qb from Oklahoma, and their only loss this season was at Utah. Chip Kelly vs. Riley in a huge game for both teams. It should be a very good game, and I like both teams and their coaches! I have seen a game in the Rose Bowl (not on Jan. 1) and after a $200 million dollar retrofit, it is as good a place as anywhere to see a football game. My hope is for the Ducks to beat Utah, and play USC in Las Vegas in December for the Pac-12 championship! Have my Beaver Busters t-shirt out and ready, and also a Ducks eat Beavers cica 1986 from Paddock Tavern in Eugene for a basketball game. Pray Bo Nix will return next year for the Ducks, and shock everyone! Go Ducks!
